Village of Quinga

The province of Nampula has 23 districts (counties). In the district of Liupo, there is a poor village called Quinga, home to approximately 44,000 people, most of them children.

Quinga is located only 85 miles southeast of the provincial capital, Nampula, known as the capital of the north. However, road conditions are so poor that the journey takes about eight hours to travel those 85 miles. During the rainy season (December–March), the roads often become impassable.

A Christian school named REFÚGIO (Refuge) was established in 2019 by Brazilian pastor and missionary Tiago Guimaraes da Silva.  In December 2024, during the post-election riots, much of the country was vandalized, including the small Refúgio school.  Everything was stolen except the roof and the walls.  As a result, in 2025, 95 children were unable to return to school, and as of 2026, they still do not have a functional school to attend.

William Romualdo is a missionary pilot and mechanic serving in Nampula. When William met Tiago in December 2025, a friendship began. Quinga happens to have an airstrip that was originally built by the Portuguese in 1950, but no plane has landed there since 1994. William prayed that God would open a way to reopen the Quinga airstrip so he could serve Tiago and the Christian school.

William conducted ten low passes over the runway to assess its condition, accompanied by his flight instructor, Dave Holmes. After these low passes, William felt convicted that it would be possible to reopen the runway. In January 2026, William and Tiago drove more than eight hours to travel the 85 miles to Quinga. William began cutting trees, and ten Mozambican Christian workers joined him in clearing the runway. In just seven days, significant progress was made.

Now it is time to raise the funds to reopen the school. A total of $14,895 is needed to purchase chairs, desks, a computer, printer, paint, pots, pans, silverware, books, uniforms, and other essential supplies.
